What is HYDROSEEDING?

Hydroseeding or hydraulic mulch seeding, hydro-mulching, hydraseeding or hydro seeding is actually a simple process where water, seed, fertilizer and a mulch is mixed in a tank to form a slurry, and applied to a prepared soil surface.

The water acts as a carrier of the slurry as well as start the germination process. The seed can also be pre-germinated in the tank to jump start the process.

The seed used can be any king of seed depending on the application and include regular lawn seed for yards and grassy areas to turf type of seed for athletic areas and even wild flowers for ditches and meadows. We only use the finest seed to guarantee germination and a quick thick lawn.

Fertilizer is usually used in the slurry. A high phosphorus "starter" fertilizer that will stimulate root growth is the most commonly used to stimulate root growth and fast establishment of your grass.

Hydro seeding mulch is what gives the slurry its' green/blue color. It does more than just add attractiveness, it helps protect the seed, prevents erosion and seals in moisture. It may be made from a paper or wood product or a mix of them.

There can be other additives added to the slurry including tackifiers for slopes, and soil PH balancing agents

The hydoseeding slurry is generally transported in a truck on on a trailer and in some cases via airplane for application. We do not do aerial hydroseeding, but we have the equipment to do the job professional whether it is small patching or re-seading or a large new seeding.

Why Should I HYDROSEED?

  • If planting a relatively large area, hydroseeding can be completed in a short period of time.
  • Hydroseeding can be very effective for hillsides and lawns with grades to help with erosion control.
  • Hydro seeded lawn establish themselves quicker than broadcast methods.
  • Hydro seeding is 1/4 the cost of sod.
  • Results from hydroseeding are often quick with high germination rates producing new grass growth in about a week with mowing required around 3-4 weeks from the date of application. Fiber mulch accelerates the growth process by holding fertilizer and maintaining moisture around the seeds thereby increasing the rate of germination and seed establishment.
